MENTORS MAKE A DIFFERENCE “A Mentor is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” ~ John C. Crosby Mentoring is a unique relationship…a partnership…a one-of-a kind opportunity. In the sharing of knowledge, skill, information and perspective, a mentor can foster growth and change in another’s life. Parent Aide Mentors change the lives of families. Parents faced with a situation, relationship, or event that is overwhelming may not possess the skills and support necessary to move forward successfully. In these situations, there is a greater risk for child abuse/neglect. The Parent Aide Mentors develop a supportive relationship with families to build effective parenting, problem-solving, coping, and communication skills. As a Parent Aid Mentor, by engaging the family in fun recreational activities, helping with homework time, sharing resources, or lending an ear you can help strengthen the parent-child relationship, build parenting skills, improve communication, reduce stress, increase child safety, and so much more! WHO CAN BE A MENTOR?
Individuals or couples interested in mentoring must be 21 years of age or older. College or university students under 21 years old who are seeking to complete an internship may also qualify to become a mentor. HOW TO BECOME A MENTOR The decision to become a mentor is a decision that will change lives… not just the lives of the children and adults in the supported family, but your life as well. And the positive impact of the mentoring experience will certainly ripple out to touch other relationships in the family’s and your worlds. Steps to becoming a volunteer Parent Aide Mentor:
Contact the Parent Aide Mentoring Supervisor at (561) 585-1650 ext. 108 or Mentoring@ChildrensHealingInstitute.org if you are interested in becoming a mentor.
