Families are the pillars of our society and the basis for strong communities. The Children’s Healing Institute believes that by strengthening each member of the family through mentoring, the family will be more effective and prepared to deal with life's challenges.

Some challenges are easier than others to manage. Families may find themselves isolated, or with grandparents taking care of grandchildren, a single mother/father, teen parents, many children, or with a parental history of  abuse/neglect. Sometimes there is no one to turn to and parents do the best they can on their own. But now there is someone to count on for suggestions and guidance, a Parent Aide Mentor!

The Parent Aide Mentoring program is a voluntary program for families with parents who feel overwhelmed and want to ensure that they have the skills and tools necessary to have a healthy, happy and safe home. Families will benefit from a mentor who will visit them a minimum of twice a month for at least six months.  Services are family-centered and focus on Child Safety, Problem-solving Skills, Parenting Skills, and Social Support.

Planned visits with the Parent Aid Mentor may include activities like talking and listening just like friends do, playing board games, reading books, doing arts/crafts, listening to music, or visiting the zoo, beach, museum or park. Mentors will assist parents with questions regarding their child's education, development and safety.

Our mentors are thoroughly screened, evaluated, trained and supervised by our agency.

Families living in Palm Beach County with at least one child under the age of 12 are qualified to participate in the Parent Aide Mentoring Program. Families should not have an active domestic violence situation, or DJJ or DCF case.
