Roxanne Grobbel, JD, LCSW is a licensed attorney in Florida and Michigan and practiced law before returning to school following her original desire to become a psychotherapist. She received her masters degree in clinical social work from Florida Atlantic University, is a registered Play Therapy Supervisor and EMDR therapist. She is currently the Clinical Director for All ‘Bout Children, Inc. and coordinates the program evaluation and research for the Childcare Community Social and Emotional Wellness program. She also has a private practice in Boca Raton specializing in trauma and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).

Roxanne is currently the Co-President of the Palm Beach Martin County Chapter for the Florida Association for Play Therapy. Roxanne and Jane Robinson have written a chapter, “Play Therapy Techniques with Very Young At-Risk Childrenin Child Care Setting” for a book edited by Charles Schaefer and published early 2008. She is available to see clients on an individual basis. Roxanne teaches a course on Early Childhood Social and Emotional Wellness at Palm BeachState and presents workshops on various topics to mental health professionals and preschool educators.

Kristen Seles Med, MM, Mt-BC, NICU-MT is a board certified music therapist currently providing music therapy services in Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Kristen received a Masters of Music Therapy from Florida State University and NICU-MT certification from the National Institute for Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy. She has experience in working with children in the educational and medical setting. Kristen has been working with children with autism and special needs for more than 3 years, and specializes in special needs, autism, early intervention, and attachment disorders. Kristen has also provided music therapy services to hospice patients for the last 2 years.

Kristen has 10 years teaching experience in the public and private school system as well as a Masters of Education in the Arts. Over the past 15+ years Kristen has taught piano and voice to students of many ages, various developmental levels, and in multiple languages. Kristen has put on numerous concert performances with students both in the public school setting and privately.
Carol Messmore, PhD, LMFt has presented at previous Turn on the Light Conferences always receiving extremely favorable evaluations. Attendees have requested a workshop focusing on Post Partum Depression.
Ali Cunningham, M.Ed, LMHC, Assitant Director has been working with development and implementation of children's programs since she completed her Bachelor's in Psychology from Florida State University. Starting with literacy programs with the Governor's Office she worked in assisting state agencies to run employee based mentoring programs for school aged children. After this she worked abroad teaching English to students from various populations, ranging from professionals seeking post-graduate degrees to teens with learning disabilities. Upon returning she obtained her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and has since been licensed. She has been working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders for several years and will continue to do so as she starts pursuing her Doctoral degree in Fall 2010.
Dr. Jill Ehrenreich-May is the Director of the Child and Adolescent Mood and Anxiety Treatment program at the University of Miami. She is also an Associate Professor in the Child Division of the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami with research and clinical expertise in the treatment of anxiety and depression in youth. Dr. Ehrenreich May is a Miami native that received her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida and her Ph.D at the University of Mississippi in 2002. She completed a clinical internship at the University of Chicago Medical Center and until August, 2008 was a Research Assistant Professor of Psychology and Associate Director of the Child Program in the Center for Anxiety and Disorders at Boston University.

In addition to the development and evaluation of evidence-based treatment approaches for anxiety and depressive disorders in youth, Dr. Ehrenreich May is particularly interested in the transportability and implementation of effective treatments in environments that maximize their impact and benefit for children, including educational, pediatric and recreational settings. Dr. Ehrenreich May is the author or co-author of multiple journal articles, book chapters and other publication relating to this work. Dr. Ehrenreich May's current research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies. Deborah Radzwill is a Licensed Psychologist and also works as a Team Leader at The Renfrew Center of Florida. She was awarded a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and for the past 8 years she has been treating patients of all ages and ethnicities who suffer from eating disorders and co-morbid pathology. She has been interviewed by Teen Vogue magazine, as well as in local news broadcasts. Additionally, she has taught undergraduate courses at Nova Southeastern University, including “Introduction to Psychology” and “Interpersonal Communication.”
Heather P. Maio, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist, Assistant Clinical Director / Director of Residency Training and Red Team Leader.
Dr. Heather Maio received her B.S. in Psychology (1999) from Florida Atlantic University and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology (2004) from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She completed her Pre-Doctoral Residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worchester State Hospital. During Dr. Maio's training at UMASS her areas of interest included Correctional Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Behavioral Medicine, Neuro-psychology, Crisis Intervention & Community Mental Health Services. Dr. Maio completed her Post-Doctoral residency at The Renfrew Center of South Florida (specializing in the treatment of Eating Disorders and their co-morbid pathologies). Dr. Maio has extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, couples and families. Dr. Maio’s special interests include the treatment of eating disorders, substance abuse, relationships issues, women’s issues and Motivational Interviewing. Dr. Maio maintains a private practice in Boca Raton, Florida and presents locally providing awareness and advocacy for the treatment of eating disorders.
Jennifer Rey has been working in the field of domestic violence since 1999. She has worked in both shelter and outreach programs with children and adults. Jennifer currently works for Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse as the Violence Prevention Educator, presenting throughout the state of Florida on issues relating to domestic violence with a focus on children. Jennifer’s vision throughout her work is a non-violent society where children can just be children. She was awarded Child Advocate of the Year in 2005 by the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Jennifer’s new love and passion is being a mother to her son, Mateo.

Jennifer has presented for the past 7 years and continuously receives excellent evaluation with requests for her to return.

Kerry DeBay, ATR-BC, LMHC, CTS, RYT is a Board-Certified, Registered Art Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Trauma Specialist and Registered Yoga Teacher. She has been working with children and families in Palm Beach County for over 20 years with a significant focus on grief & loss education and support. Kerry is the author of The Grief Bubble: helping kids explore and understand grief, and the Spanish version, La Burbuja del Duelo. She is a contributing author of Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents, and Families Volume II: Practitioners Share Their Most Effective Techniques, and illustrated the children’s book, Honey Bear Died.
Kimberly G. Welles currently serves as the Department of Children and Families Southeast Region Program Director for Broward and Palm Beach County. Ms. Welles brings an array of expertise to the Florida Department of Children and Families having held positions at all levels and ultimately as an executive with more than 25 years of results oriented leadership. Ms. Welles was appointed to former Secretary Robert Butterworth’s Department of Children and Families Organizational Review Work Group to examine the organizational structure of the Department to assure that it effectively meets the needs of the Department’s customer and is best suited for an action-oriented agency.

In addition, Ms. Welles was nominated as one of Florida’s state team leads for the Federal Child and Family Service Review conducted in January 2008. For a short duration, she left the Department to accept an appointment as the Executive Director of a not-for-profit agency in Miami/Dade County. She was responsible for the development of a social service continuum including over 100-child welfare professionals who, during the first year in business, earned the not-for-profit agency financial performance awards in excess of $350,000.00. In 2003, Ms. Welles earned the Department of Children and Families Broward County ‘Employee of the Year’ award for her leadership, tenacity, attention to detail and thoughtful suggestions in the successful transition of the Department of Children and Families child welfare program to community based care.

Presently, Ms. Welles serves on numerous committees in Broward and Palm Beach County and serves as an Early Learning Coalition board member. Ms. Welles is a Florida Certified Public Manager and holds a degree from Ohio University’s College of Arts and Science.
Dr. Barbara Krantz, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Research of the noted nonprofit Hanley Center addiction treatment facility, has been practicing medicine in South Florida for over thirty years. Dr. Krantz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine as well as board certified in Family Practice. Prior to accepting the position of CEO in 2008, Dr. Krantz was Chief of Medical Services for Hanley Center.

She is also an expert on the national and local prescription pain medication epidemic, and the medical science behind the disease of addiction. At Hanley Center, Dr. Krantz leads a collaborative study with Scripps Florida and the University of Miami to identify effective and innovative treatment therapies and outcomes. She also is an advocate of SPECT brain scanning to help more effectively target and treat the disease of addiction. Under her direction, Hanley Center became one of the country’s first addiction treatment centers to obtain a SPECT scan machine.

Prior to joining Hanley in 2001, Dr. Krantz was the medical director at the Center for Alcohol and Drug Studies. From 1987 to 1999, she was the medical director at Cornerstone, a substance abuse treatment program at Wellington Regional Medical Center, and maintained a private family practice that included pediatrics and geriatrics. Dr. Krantz has taught medicineat Nova Southeastern University in North Miami Beach and University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. She lectures on numerous topics, including the bio-chemistry of the brain as it relates to addiction.

In 2010, the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) inducted Dr. Krantz into their Fellow program for her substantial and lasting contributions to the field of Addiction Medicine. The Palm Beach County Medical Society honored Dr. Krantz in 2008 with its Heroes in Medicine award for her leadership, philanthropy and commitmentto the field of medicine. In 2007, the Medical Review Officer Certification Council certified Dr. Krantz as a Medical Review Officer to evaluate workplace drug and alcohol test results.

She completed her family practice residency at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. She earned a master’s of science degree at the University of Miami and a bachelor’s of science from Manhattanville College in New York.

Dr. Krantz is a member of the American Medical Association, American Medical Women’s Association, and American College of Family Practitioners, American Osteopathic Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Mindi Fetterman is part of the well-traveled circus act of juggling, striving, and highly caffeinated mothers on the quest to conquer balance. Between family, work, community and self, Einstein’s words play as a musical backdrop of the everyday…”Time is relative”.

Mindi was born in Chicago, Illinois and has lived in Florida for over twenty years. She and her husband Adam have been together for sixteen years and have an amazing six year old son, Noah.

Mindi graduated from Florida Atlantic University, Cum Laude with a degree in Women’s Studies and is currently working towards her MSW degree. She spent five years counseling women in a health care clinic in West Palm Beach that provides options for pregnant women, HIV testing and sex education.

She currently travels around St. Lucie County as a Community Organizer for Kids at Hope. She trains schools, organizations, businesses and families to conceptualize the basic belief that “All Children Are Capable of Success, NO EXCEPTIONS!”

Mindi is also frequently invited as a guest speaker to different venues to candidly discuss her experiences with breaking the ties of shame that exist in society around sexual violence, rape and incest.

She has traveled to Brazil to work in schools and orphanages, volunteers for Hospice, The Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Autism Speaks, The Lord’s Place, Planned Parenthood, NOW, NCJW, Hadassah and The Port St. Lucie Business Women and Sarah’s Kitchen. Marcia Bahia is the Gang Prevention Coordinator for Palm Beach County, employed for the past two years by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office under a federal grant awarded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In her role as Gang Prevention Coordinator, Ms. Bahia is very active in the county working closely with local stakeholders to help prevent and reduce gang membership.

Previously, Ms. Bahia was employed by the Palm Beach County School District where for six years she was responsible for overseeing the Palm Beach County Youth Court – a juvenile diversion program.

Additionally, Ms. Bahia has experience in the Child Welfare System where she worked for six years serving as a foster care counselor for the Department of Children and Families.
Chris Caris is a gang detective assigned to the Violent Crimes Division. He has been employed for the past 13 years by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Det. Caris has been assigned to the gang unit for approximately 7 years and in his capacity as a gang detective he has investigated numerous gang related crimes including gang homicides. Det. Caris was nominated and received the award for Detective of the Month for February 2011 for the Violent Crimes Division. Det. Caris is very active in the community working closely with local agencies to help prevent and reduce gang membership. Det. Caris has conducted several presentations to local schools, church groups, and other organizations in efforts to combat gang activity.

APPROACHES TO HEALING TRACK

  • EMDR and Trauma Resolution 
    This workshop will describe the origin of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), the problems it can treat and the efficacy of the intervention.  It will explore the nature of trauma and the theoretical basis for EMDR.   The EMDR Session protocol will be illustrated, cautions in using EMDR reviewed, and using EMDR with children will be described.

  • Helping Kids Explore and Understand Grief

    Every year thousands of children become victims of crime- whether it’s kidnapping, violent attacks,
    or sexual abuse. In this session participants will discuss the types of child prostitution, issues relating to victims of child prostitution, and learn how to better protect children on the internet. They will learn the

  • Human Trafficking; Community Responsibility, Recognition and Response
    Human trafficking is modern day slavery and is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Participants will also learn about law enforcement, legal and social service approaches to assist victims of human trafficking and valuable community resources that can be utilized by agencies when faced with a case of human trafficking.

  • “When the worst happens: change, loss & grief in the life of a child”

  • Post Partum Depression: It’s a Family Affair
    Workshop participants will learn the statistics, symptoms and red flags for post partum depression in
    new mothers and the effects of the pathology on the entire family system.     Teens face pressures to conform to societal norms from multiple sources in our society; parents,
    schools, peers, religion and media.  Most people state they are not impacted by media, they just ignore it.  This is difficult to do when we are exposed to 3,000 advertisements per day, spend 2 years of our lives watching television commercials and advertisers spend almost 2 billion dollars per year to sell products.  This workshop will explore the way youth are molded into gender norms through film, television, commercials and the music industry impacting the way they interact in interpersonal relationships.
